This was exemplified by the existing economic, social and cultural inequalities that even worsened during the martial law.

BBC EXCOM Elects New Officers for 2015-2016

The BBC National Executive Committee at its organizational meeting held August 13, 2015 elected its new officers continuing its pursuit of Inclusive Growth through Development and Social Justice.

The Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference is scheduled to hold its 39th General Assembly and Annual Meeting on July 13, 2015, at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center, U.N. Avenue, Paco, Manila.

The BBC, in pursuit of the ideals of its Consensus Statement believes that the development of our country is not simply a process of economic growth or of moral regeneration. We believe that it must be both – a process of total Human Development and Inclusive Growth to be realized by the Church-Business-Government and Basic Sectors all working together.

BBC Holds Retraining Program on Government Procurement Monitoring for Diocese of Bacolod BAC Volunteers
The Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference for Human Development, in collaboration with the Partnership for Transparency Fund (PTF) and the Bacolod Diocesan Social Action Center with the blessings of Bishop Vicente Navarra, sponsored a three-day live-in training seminar for Bids and Awards Committees (BAC) Volunteer Observers of the Diocese of Bacolod.

BBC STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR THE KILUS MAGNINIYOG
The Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference for Human Development (BBC) expresses its full support to the Kilus Magniniyog in its 71-day march (now on its 43rd day) from Davao City to Malacanang, to ask the President to issue an Executive Order and to certify as urgent legislation the passage of a P71 billion Coconut Farmers Trust Fund. The march is expected to reach Malacanang on November 26, 2014, a day before the closing ceremony of the International Year of Family Farming in Manila.

BBC Chapter Formation
Responding to the request of Bishop Antonio Tobias for the formation of a BBC chapter in the Diocese of Novaliches, a meeting with Fr. Luciano Felloni, Caritas Novaliches Executive Director and Bro. Ernesto Taeza, Jr., Resource Mobilization Office was held last August 20, 2013 at Club Filipino. Mr.Meneleo Carlos, Jr. and Mr. Jesus Francisco represented the BBC ExCom.

CAC-BBC-LAIKO Government Procurement Monitoring Project
July 2011-June 2012

Introduction

The Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference for Human Development (BBC) is the lead organization for a project focused on monitoring government procurement. This project is anchored on the participation of civil society volunteers as observers in various Bids and Awards Committees (BACs) as provided for in Section 13 of Republic Act 9184 otherwise known as the Government Procurement Reform Act (GPRA). It envisions genuine transparency and accountability in government procurement.

BISHOPS JOIN GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT MONITORING

MANILA — As part of the government’s transparency program, Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo has invited church volunteers to observe the process of awarding contracts in the agency.
The Memorandum of Agreement was signed last Tuesday by Robredo and the Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference for Human Development (BBC) National Chairperson Archbishop Angel Lagdameo and co-chair Meneleo Carlos, Jr.

The greater prevalence of poverty makes Business-Church dialogue and cooperation for human development more important now than ever before. BBC was privileged to have been granted an opportunity to renew and strengthen the synergy between Church and Business that began as early as 1971 at the inception of BBC, through a dialogue with the CBCP Plenary Assembly last January 29, 2012 at the Pope Pius Center.

BBC Statement on Mining in Bicol
The Bishops-Businessmen Conference for Human Development fully supports the position of Bishop Arturo Bastes of the Diocese of Sorsogon on behalf of the Bicol Bishops that the environmental destruction, economic dislocation and health impacts wrought by mining operations in the Bicol Region are a great injustice to the people of the region, especially its poor who bear the heaviest burden of mining activities.

On the Environmental concerns, one of the 11 Guiding Principles of Executive Order 270 issued in 2004 entitled, the National Policy on Revitalizing the Mining Agenda in the Philippines, states: “a continuous and meaningful consultation process with the industry and all other stakeholders shall be instituted, to integrate concerns on minerals in resource management policy and planning.”

Replication of BBC Government Procurement Monitoring Project in the Provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental
This undertaking in the two provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental with funding support from the Procurement Transparency Fund is an expansion of the existing project of CAC-BBC-LAIKO Government Procurement Monitoring Project.

On the Environmental concerns, one of the 11 Guiding Principles of Executive Order 270 issued in 2004 entitled, the National Policy on Revitalizing the Mining Agenda in the Philippines, states: “a continuous and meaningful consultation process with the industry and all other stakeholders shall be instituted, to integrate concerns on minerals in resource management policy and planning.”

COMMITTEE on Social Justice & Agrarian Reform
The BBC Social Justice Committee engaged in the following activities in 2011-2012.
(1) National Summit on Poverty, Inequality and Social Reform.
The Summit held in September-December 2011 was convened by the Climate Change Congress of the Philippines , CBCP-NASSA and the National Anti-Poverty Commissio, together with the following government agencies, namely the DA, DAR, DENR, DILG, DWSD and DepEd as co-convenors.

Assistance to the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro and Diocese of Dumaguete
In response to the unfortunate fate that befell the Arcdiocese of Cagayan de Oro and Diocese of Dumaguete due to the wrath brought by typhoons and floods, some business members shared their kindness and generosity to help ease the pain and suffering of the people.
